Four local teachers can win free trip to Turkeyrecordonline.com, 05.04.2008
The World Affairs Council of the Mid-Hudson Valley will send four local educators on an eight-day summer study tour to Turkey thanks to a grant from the Turkish Cultural Foundation. The fellowship includes visits to historical sites, seminars and meetings with Turkish educators in July or August.
Full-time K-12 teachers are eligible to apply. Selected applicants must attend a daylong professional development workshop about Turkey hosted by the World Affairs Council at Vassar College May 17.
Preference will be given to teachers who can demonstrate commitment to education about Turkey and who specify how they will use the study tour experience to enhance understanding about Turkey in their classrooms and school district.
Each participant is asked to pay $500 toward the program cost and arrange ground transportation to Kennedy Airport for the flight to Turkey. Requests for a single room will result in an additional fee. All other expenses, including airfare, hotels, local travel in Turkey and most meals are covered by the Council.
Applications may be downloaded from www.hvworldaffairscouncil.org. The application filing deadline is April 11.
